Varsity
Spring 2011
Weekly Update
April 26th
On April 12, Brookfield Central came to Elm Grove Park to kick off the Greater Metro Conference season with
MUHS.  MUHS came out strong and took the conference dual 7-2.  Damon Niquet defeated Michael Treis at #1
singles, 6-0, 6-0.  Matt Lynch defeated Jack Michael at #2 singles in three long sets 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.  Austin
Budiono defeated Matt Michael at #4 singles 6-1, 7-6(3).  The #1 doubles duo of Jack Porritt and CJ Armbrust
took down Central’s Kevin Schmidt and Andrew Denu 6-0, 6-4.  Connor Muth and Greg Raster had a thrilling 3
set victory  with  6-2, 3-6, 7-6(5).  Troy Holland and Dan Ebsen combined for a straight-set 6-2, 6-4 win at #3
doubles.  Chas Muth and Adam Hurrle won a close first set (7-5) at #4 doubles and closed the door on Central
with a 6-1 second set.  Alex Smith came up short in a tough match against Jordan Patt 4-6, 0-6.  Matt Steindorf
and Bobby Stemper fell in a tight first tie-break set 6-7(5)and retired due to illness.

Spring Break kicked off with the Brookfield East Invite, brought indoors due to the cold and rainy spring
weather.  The Varsity team traveled north to Fond du Lac Center Court Tennis Club Friday night to face
Neenah where the Hilltoppers took matches at #1 and #2 singles as well as #1 and #3 doubles to win 4-3 in the
first round of the invite.  Saturday’s invite matches were played at Lake Country Racquet Club where we faced
Eau Claire Memorial, who edged us out by winning 5-4.  Due to some injuries and absences, our team was not
playing at full strength throughout the tournament, but we were able to take the matches at #1 singles, as well
as #3, 4 and 5th doubles.  In the final round of the Brookfield East invite, we faced Illinois powerhouse New
Trier where we took two matches at #4 singles and #4 doubles.

A fourth place finish was not our team goal of the tournament, but it was a great lead-in to our Spring Break
plans.  Rather than traveling over break as the team has done in the past years, the players in town over break
headed indoors to Pleasant Valley Tennis Club and Northshore Elite for a few days to focus on fitness, working
hard and fine-tuning their tennis games.  The players definitely showed heart, endurance and commitment to
building their level of tennis as we refocus for the remainder of the season.  The coaching staff is extremely
happy with the team’s progress over break and we look forward to continue refocusing our efforts this week.

This week, we face Homestead at Elm Grove Park on Wednesday at 4pm, followed by another home match
against Wauwatosa East on Thursday at 4pm.  Saturday, the Varsity team will be in the Whitefish Bay Invite
with DePere, Madison Memorial and Whitefish Bay at 9am.

We have also added a match against Kenosha Tremper on Tuesday, May 17th.  Check out the full schedule

Thank you to all our fans and we hope to see you out supporting the Hilltoppers this season!
